IMPEACHMENT
The arguments in the trial of the impeachment of President Johnson were concluded on May
7. The peroration of Mr. Binghams speech was greeted by tumultuous applause from the
galleries, and chief Justice Chase ordered them to be cleared. The final vote, which was
to have been taken on May 12, was postponed on account of Senator Howards illness
until the 16th inst.Articles
